Graduates & Undergraduates

Eclipse Ecology are seeking Seasonal Ecologists to join our list of sub-contractors for the 2022 field season. We work on a variety of sites from small house/gardens to large plots of land proposed for residential development. Sites are typically located in Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and occasionally in Surrey. Surveyors based in these counties are therefore of particular interest.

We require assistance with bat surveys between May and September on an ad-hoc basis. Surveys typically involve evenings, taking approx. 4 hours (including travel time). There may also be the opportunity to assist with amphibian, reptile, dormouse, otter and water vole surveys depending on project requirements. Specialist survey equipment/materials (such as bat detectors) and full training on survey techniques will be provided where necessary. Surveyors are however expected to bring basic equipment such as a clipboard/weather-writer, pen, headtorch and camping chair.

Role Requirements

No experience is necessary; however, we ask that candidates:

  • Are studying for or have a BSc in a Biological or Environmental Science subject.

  • Hold a full driving licence with access to a car.

  • Have basic survey equipment including; a clipboard/weather-writer, headtorch, thermometer and camping chair (for bat surveys).

  • Are reliable, organised and flexible with time.

  • Are based in one of the following counties: Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Surrey or West Sussex,.

Applications from graduates with relevant experience of protected species surveys are of course also welcome.

Our Offer

In return, Eclipse Ecology:

  • Pay £15/hour for survey and travel time.

  • Reimburse mileage at 45 pence/mile (and other work-incurred expenses such as accommodation if needed).

  • Provide training in ecological survey techniques where required.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to kick-start their career in ecological consultancy or a similar line of work. If you're interested in working with Eclipse Ecology, please email your CV with a brief cover letter to Cassie Todd cassie@eclipse-ecology.co.uk

The opportunity will remain open over the 2022 field season.
